Dr Amber Keenan is a fully qualified and accredited Clinical Psychologist registered with the HCPC and chartered by the BPS. She is an experienced clinician who specialises in complex adult mental health conditions and latterly in gender identity issues. Dr Keenan has delivered evidence-based psychological therapies within various community-based, inpatient and outpatient settings and in independent practice.
Dr Keenan graduated from The University of Aberdeen in 2007 with first class honours in Psychology before completing a Masters of Philosophy in Neuroscience and Psychiatry in 2008 at The University of Manchester. Since this time Dr Keenan has been employed within NHS, University and Private Sector settings, completing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at The University of Edinburgh in 2012.
Dr Keenan has experience in the delivery of a variety of teaching and training packages. She provides regular consultancy and clinical supervision to psychologists and other health care professionals. Dr Keenan has supervised undergraduate and doctoral level research projects. As a Lecturer (Scholarship) at The University of Aberdeen she delivers lectures and workshops to undergraduate and post-graduate psychology students.
Dr Keenan regularly works with individuals experiencing difficulties with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, complicated grief, somatisation disorders, personality disorders and childhood trauma. She routinely supports individuals with co-morbid physical health conditions and adapts therapy to the needs of the individual. Dr Keenan’s preferred therapeutic approach is eclectic. She uses cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, schema therapy, mindfulness, behavioural activation and phase-based interventions.
Dr Keenan has a particular interest in medico-legal assessment. She specialises in psychological consequences of accidents and clinical negligence. She has experience of providing professional and expert witness testimony in Court. Dr Keenan also provides expert opinion in work-related stress, psychological factors affecting work capacity and recommendations for workplace adaptations.
